Can anyone get in as a spectator or do you have to be a NWTF member? Also, what is the cost? I live in Salem so I'm close and would like to come.

Guys, I would have to say that to be a spectator would be free. If it cost anything it can't be much. It should be fun, come on out...

To anyone who has never been to a contest, come. If you have never entered one, enter. It is a lot of fun and you learn a lot about the different calls and I think it makes you a better caller in the long run. I hope to see all of you out here. In the ones that I have been to they are free to watch.

In the calling contest what calls do the contestants do and is there a set pattern in all the contests? How are they judged? This is a cool site, glad I found it.

Hey Wingbeater... the calls can vary from contest to contest. You can usually count on having to do a plain yelp, kee-kee run, cluck & purr, and a callers best call. The fly-down cackle is also a popular call.

The judges give a point value for your call and the high and low are thrown out and the other 3 are totaled. Highest score wins... If there is a tie, you have a call off...

Were glad you found the site too! Welcome!

Thanks Freddy, This is a nice website. If you don't mind me asking what do the judges listen for? Most of the calls seem easy, the KEE-kee is alittle hard.

Different judges listen to different things... I listen for realism and rythem. I close my eyes and try to be convinced it's a turkey. It can be very difficult to determine what's best... some judges like clear calling, others raspy. Some like loud calls, some like moderate volume. It just depends on the judge. To be honest... the kee-kee is usually what seperates the callers- it is the most difficult. Come on down and join the contest!

Hey guys... contest went really well... Jeremy Hendrick of Hillsville won the Senior Open Contest... He is an absolutely great caller. I think there were 4 Juniors, 13 Seniors, 4 Owl, and 4 Gobbling contestants.

Hey Scott... what channel was that on? I saw the camera guy come back there while we were judging but I never knew what the deal was... Did they show any of that?

I got to meet Scott too... :)!

Freddy I'm a bum! :( I never saw it on T.V. My Mother-In-Law called to tell me I was on about five minutes after it went off!! I said thanks! :) It was on channel 7, They set up right beside me and taped the juniors and about half of the seniors. My Father-In-Law told me they showed me several times.... two thumbs up for Jeremy... he was awesome!

Congrats to all who called, I would like to think all the judges also. Even if I did not win I really enjoyed myself, and thats the name of the game. This was my 5th contest, but not my last all the other guys who I have competed with several times say I am getting better this time around. I scored higher than ever. Don't let anyone steal your dreams shoot for them. Not long till we all get to compete for the real judges THE TURKEYS. Check out my article at this site WWW.westlakeva.com goto news and choose hunting , enjoy.
