VDGIF purchased 8300 acres in Wythe County called Big Survey WMA. Anyone have any idea of the turkey population in this area or on this specific tract of land? It looks nice from the photos.

PG,

I have hunted the Mt. Rogers Natl Rec area (close by)quite a bit and have seen some good sign. Spoke with the game warden from that district last year and he said that the population is pretty healthy. I am looking forward to scouting the new purchase myself. I will post the results.

I've hunted Wythe County alot and the turkey numbers are pretty good. I'm not sure of the exact location of the new purchase but it should be prime turkey land... most of the country in the Wytheville area is.

WOW!! I just checked the VDGIF webpage and read about the new WMA. I've hunted Sand Mountain before and yes there is turkeys there. Should be some prime hunting for everyone.

There are turkeys all over the survey!!! Unfortunately if the property is sold, again, it will be unavailable for hunters.
We sponsor a Parent Youth Hunt for Our local NWTF chapter and this year we will be hunting the survey.
Our farm abuts the survey and we have wanted to explore it for years. This winter we have started to do so and now we know where the game hides come season!!!!
If you haven't done it yet , please call and tell the legislature to leave the VDGIF budget intact. this pristine piece of real estate was sold to them to kkep it just that way. Who knows what developers will do to it

I did write to the governor directly regarding the DGIF budget. Are there parking areas available Nell? If you don't want to post it I understand, my email is mjsbls@yahoo.com

Thanks for the info. MIKE
