The state is looking to cut over 8 million dollars from the VDGIF budget!
Please email the governor and tell him that this is unfair! The funds for VDGIF are generated by us through fees and taxes on hunting and fishing equipment. Don't rob our funds.

Or call1-800-889-0229 state constituant line and they will send your state reps a message. We need your help now.

Hey guys I actually got a letter back from my delegate from the call I made. It basically said that they were looking at other options, rather than taking all of that money from the DGIF. Hopefully enogh of us will call to make them know we do not support the cuts.

I never got a response back... but I heard on the news that Warrner gave $3,000,000 back to the VDGIF. It wasn't the whole $9,000,000 which he should have gave back but it is some.

This is a pretty good article listing the dangers we still face. They ask that we focus in on the senate. Please take a moment to call 1-800-889-0229.

here's the e-mail I got back...

Governor Warner has asked me to reply to your letters regarding the budget issues for the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Your concern for the Department's funding and your support for its programs are indeed appreciated.

At this point, Governor Warner has proposed a number of Executive Amendments to the original proposed budget that would fully restore all funds that the Department receives from hunting and fishing license sales and recreational boating. With those amendments, he has restored more dollars to the Department than were restored to most other state agencies.

The Senate Finance and House Appropriations Committees have also proposed budget amendments which restore funding to the Department. The Administration will continue to work with the Legislature to restore as much funding as possible.

Again, we appreciate your insights about our Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the services that it provides to our citizens. While my tenure as Secretary of Natural Resources has been just a few weeks, I share your high regard for the Department. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have questions or need further information.

W. Tayloe Murphy, Jr.
Secretary of Natural Resources

Spoke to the VADGIF folks at the Chantilly Sportman's Show and it is now down to 4 million dollars being taken from DGIF. The cards and letters are having an effect, so keep the pressure up !
