I have never fall hunted much. If you had your druthers, and you knew you could walk in to a place that had a fair bunch of birds within a couple hundred acres of woods, but could only hunt one day-not the next- would you go in and hunt them in the am or the pm ? Is there any reason to go early( I know they make a bunch of racket on the roost in the fall)? I guess what I am asking is if they are in a bigger hurry to get back together in the am than in the pm, or vice versa.

With young birds I don't think it really matters... If you find them and bust them up they will want to get back together pretty quick. I have had better luck locating them in the morning as they are feeding heavy and making more noise, especially on the roost.

If you're going after gobblers you better bust them up early and be prepared to wait, and wait, and wait some more! ;o)

In the mountains you have to be careful about busting them up as they will fly a LONG way off the mountain... Try to flush them up the mountain or just make sure they won't sail off the mountain too far. It's easier said than done...

Good luck!

Philosophy from a taxidermist's wife. Go in the morning. If you don't get a bird, go home and take a nap. Then, get up and go in the afternoon. If you only have one day then make the most of it!
