Hey guys, I am new to this site and I posted this before and it fell up under an exisiting thread. So I will try again. Thanks Scarecrow for the thoughts. Anyway, I wanted to say this is a great discusion board and site. I am an avid turkey hunter and waterfowler and occasionally look at a site for duck hunting in the fall. This site is better and is more about hunting experiences and seems like their is some nice people here. I have tagged out for the year and am now hunting with a camera. Killed a 18.5 lb and a 16 lb bird. 10 inch beard and 6 inch respectively. Maybe should have passed on number two. I do have a question though. I have two very interesting turkeys were I hunt. One is solid white (possible gobbler) and one is half white and have regular (hen). I have been around for a while and have been seeing the half and half bird for 2 years. First year on "WHITEY". Saw them both with one othwer gobbler and 4 other hens two weeks before season. Seen 50/50 two more times. All in the evenings. Saw a bird at Hughes Taxidermy that was white instead of brown and faded ggrey where it should be black.I just described 3 birds here. I think. Any ideas which one is truly albino or any thoughts on each. How rare are these guys? I am dying to get pictures as I am sure these birds are wild and really want to get close to them.

Are they truly white or are they silver colored? If truly white then albino or tame are the derivations. Silver/gray is a more common color after some tame blood surfaces in a few gnerations. I have to admit I do not know the answers for what happens when albinos breed etc...the biologists in Tenn have said ((Ithink) kill the off color ones fyou can to get them out of the gene poolasthey are likely tame bird inbreeding which can carry diseases..

The white birds or partial white are 100% wild too. It's called the silve phase. A true albino will have pink eyes & is steril.
I believe the tame birds were derived from the wild ones not the other way around.
The white tame birds were attained through genetic breeding of wild stock.
my 2 cents

as to rarity, there was a flock of 180 birds in a river bottome this winter...you could watch them with binocs..one was silver phase. hen...I saw her or another one like her several times during the season, and as late as last week. As for wild vs tame...of course all turkeys aoriginbally came form wild stock..that is pretty basic..but tame birds (and ones with domestic white coloring )have ended up ,like it or not, inbreeding with the restocked birds(hopefully from wild , or nearly wild strains) in many areas. That is the source for the silver phase as I understand it. Again, the biologists in Tenn say get rid of them if you can.
