Virulent Anti-Hunter Named Humane Society of the U.S. CEO

You may recognized the name Wayne Pacelle of the Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS), largest and best funded animal extremist lobbying group. Long known for his virulent anti-hunting views, Pacelle has been designated the next HSUS CEO and will assume that office in May. Here are some of Pacelle's personal statements and items from HSUS's website:

"If we could shut down all sport hunting in a moment, we would."

"Our goal is to get sport hunting in the same category as cock fighting and dog fighting. Our opponents say that hunting is a tradition. We say traditions can change."

"Only 7% of Americans are hunters. That means there are more of us than there are of them. It is simply a matter of democracy. The majority rules in a democracy. We are going to use the ballot box and the democratic process to stop all hunting in the United States... We will take it species by species until all hunting is stopped in California. Then we will take it state by state."
"The vast majority of species that are hunted—waterfowl, upland birds, mourning doves, squirrels, raccoons, rabbits, crows, coyotes, etc.—provide minimal sustenance and do not require population control." – HSUS Website 2003

"Waterfowl, pheasant and dove hunting are no more than shooting at living targets." – HSUS Website 2003.

These radicals must be stopped! Help elect sportsmen supportive legislators. SOAVA's website at http://saova.org has been updated to include general election endorsements and cautions for California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Texas and five other states' candidates.

Just another liberal org. The lib's are trying to take morals out of society:
"It is simply a matter of democracy. The majority rules in a democracy."
Democracy without morality is not much better than tyrany. Example: You & your wife are washed ashore on a desert island with 3 others .. all men. One of the men suggest that they all have a turn at your wife. Everyone votes .. you & she are out voted. But it was democratic! It must be ok!? THAT'S democracy without morality! THAT'S what the libs want!

I'm probably preaching to the choir here however if there is anyone on this board who thinks this stuff is nonsense please think again. Quick story...

I lived in NVA for 5 years. I grew up in PA and thought everyone either 1.) was a hunter or 2.) was a non-hunter but supported hunting...boy was I misguided. I cannot tell you how much anti-hunting sentiment I saw and experienced during my 5 years living in NVA so this thread should be taken very seriously. I married a non-hunting/anti-hunting girl from the NVA area...when we first met she hated hunting and thought it was the most inhumane activity going, due largely in part to what she had learned through groups like HSUS. I had really just started to realize the impact these anti-hunting groups have on people's opinions when I met her and decided I was going to show her how wrong she was! My wife to be was a huge believer in HSUS...she was blinded by some of the good things the group was famous for relevant to domestic pets and such. She has a very large extended family and they were all under this impression as well until I came along. Not only did my wife change her tune, her family did as well as I showed them what hunting is really about. The conservation organizations; the biology behind hunting; and the love I had and showed for the outdoors. Today not one of these people within my wife's family would give a penny to groups like HSUS, but my point is how many out there don't have a responsible hunter to show them the light? For those folks, this nutcase well-meaning new CEO of HSUS just makes our cause that much more difficult.

Please participate in fighting these groups that want to take away our sport...let people know just how great hunting truly is. Explain the revenue generated and the benefit to wildlife. Finally let your elected officials know how important the hunting tradition is in this country...its the only way we'll win.

Sorry to preach, but to this day many of my friends here in PA (I moved back :-) ) still think this is not a big issue. Don't fall into that trap...if you do we'll all be crying down the road.

Thank you for listening.
