well fellas i just got home,we had a decent trip.birds gobbled good on the roost this morning,me and my son went after one ,and my brother and his son went after another,me and my son didnt fair too well, but my brother called his bird into their set up and his son missed cleanly at 30 steps{first time jitters i guess}so we teamed up and found another bird around 9:00 willing to play, gobbled real good at everythingb i gave him.side note- he realy liked primos's box cutter box call, anyway my nephew started caughing alot and my brother tried to back him out as fast and as quite as he could but they spooked the bird,oh well.then around 11:00 me and my son found another willing perticipent, who also gobbled very lovingly to the primos box call, well i worked him for about 20 minutes, when out of nowere comes two dogs and the jig was up yet again.although the day was quite frustrating for me and my brother, the boys had a good time and heard some birds and had smiles on their faces.they cooked hot dogs on an open fire last night, burnt a few marsh mellows, and had an all around good time.that's what it's all about, besides there always next week.

chuck...sounds like you had a great day. Me and my son went but didn't do any good. We heard a few but mostly roost gobbling except the one next to our truck. We walked a good ways were I heard 3 yesterday gobbling good but they didn't say much this a.m. By the time we got back at the truck were the other 1 gobbled at least 50-75 times he had shut-up. Well it was nice just to get out and like you said theres next week and the rest of season.Good Luck

Sounds like the younguns are well on their way to earning those spurs. I'm sure they learned alot more about t hunting today than if the first bird had walked right up the barrel. It will mean that much more when they do connect! Good job and good luck!

Had a good morning in Sussex, but no gobbler. Roosted a nice bird Friday evening over a swamp along the edge of a big field. Slipped in the next morning, put the dekes out and waited. Gobbbbleee, some 80 yards away. Was looking very good. Had two hens pitch down just outside the decoys at 30 yards. Then he came down 70 yards away and proceeded to do the strut, gobble and skirt at 60 yards. Wouldn't come all the way to the two hens or the decoys...smart turkey. Walked straight to the spot I was originally going to set-up at until I saw exactly where they left the field for roost that night. Oh well. He got with 3 hens at that end of the field and went into strut mode. Tried working our way up there, but to no avail.
Left him around 9 and spent until 11 trying to find a gobbling bird, nothing. Went to a place where some pines were recently thinned with a couple bean fields. Began to blind call with the decoys out. 10 minutes later here comes the jake parade. 5 jakes and a hen came into the field with 3 coming all the way to 20 yards. Since there were so many jakes, I decided to give the kid the option of killing one, since he has never killed a turkey before, but he said he wanted to wait for a gobbler. Super proud momement! They messed around for a minute then I think they finally caught him fidging a little and bugged out. Kid said he had a great time and really "just liked seeing the gobbler strut like he did." Was very happy with him and his father, could tell he's been teaching him the right way. Invited them back down for another try once the regular season comes in.
Heard two more gobbling on the limb way off. The gobbler we worked gobbled 10-12 times on the limb then double that on the ground before shutting-up around 8. Think I know were to set-up on him come Opening Day though. Looked like a solid 4+ year old, especially with the way he acted, obviously the dominant bird and obviously not ready to get himself shot.
