The question about the number of years everyone has been hunting got me to thinking about how many days a hunter averages in the woods. I think the national average for turkey hunters is only 6-8 days per season, if that. How many days do you spend afield during the spring season?

I would say I average probably 40 days a spring... that's almost everyday in VA and then probably 8-10 days of out of state hunting. Most of my VA hunts are just a few hours before work every morning except for the weekends when I'm out most of the legal time.

I promise that you can tell the truth and no one will tell your wife or your boss (they could be both!) :-)

This season I'll guess 4 days out of state, and 10 days in WV. 14 days total.

Number of grouse hunting days afield...I look unemployed AND single based upon that number - neither of which is the case as of this morning.

I've got about 21 days planned for this year split between VA and NC. Hope the wife doesn't see this.

I will hunt everyday plus go out on the youth day so i think this would be 30-32 days. The bad thing is when you hunt this many days and come up empty handed. At least if you don't kill anything you could say you didn't have time to hunt.

Most years it is from 35 to 40. I actually have always thought days in the woods was a better barometer of turkey experience. I mean if you have hunted turkeys in Georgia for 10 years averaging 25 days a season that is 250 days of hunting experience. In contrast if you are in Iowa and have hunted for 20 years but only 3 days a season due to tag limitation you only have 60 days of experience. Just one of the many useless thoughts I have in the summer time as I wait for the days to pass.

I would say at least 25, maybe a few more if I can squeek it in. I wish it were 40 but I have a real job...Just kidding.

I'd say between 10-15 days for me. I usually hunt every Saturday and try to get in 1 day per week. Sometimes, I'm lucky and get in 2 days during the week, depends on work, family, and all the other things that get in the way of hunting. Love to see a season of 20 plus days in the field.

Between work and coaching a little league team, I hope to hunt at least 15 days this year.

I will be hunting every day of the season til about 1000 before I have to go to the office. You just gotta love the fact that the place you hunt is on the way to work.

You guys are killing me - 40 days!! I'm jealous. I probably average 17 days per spring, hopefully a few more this season. Unfortunately I live in Richmond and my closest spot is 45 minutes away, so that definitely cuts into my before work hunts.

Any day that I don't have a baseball game. This means 2-3 days during the week and Sat. AND the wife is going with me some days. Thats an added bonus. She can be my ears and I'll call for her. Maybe she'll even get a shot.

I wonder how much these answers will change, this year with the "all day hunting" starting?

I'm sure I will spend at least half of those evenings in the field.

that will increse my days per season by 4 or five, at least. because most of the days that i sleep in, are in the 4th and 5th week.
