O.K. Guys & Gals...... Freddy has put down on paper (or cyberspace) probably the greatest turkey hunting song ever written and nobody has even said a word about it (see turkey hunting tip contest if you have not seen). At first I thought the snow had gotten to him, but then I realized he wrote it before it snowed. Therefore, that leaves only one logical conclusion......Freddy has obviously hit the third trimester!!!!!! LOL!!!! Great song Freddy - keep up the great work. Hope all is going well with you and Amy. I just had to copy Freddy's song from the original post so everyone could see it "quickly". I think it's great (but I might be a little partial). "The Gobbler" - sung to the tune of "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers On a cool spring morning on a mountain in nowhere I met up with the gobbler we were both lacking sleep So we took turns making moves on the ridge that morning Til tiredness took over and I began to hear He said "Boy, I've made my life out of dodging guys like you And knew what they were doing before they knew too So if you don't mind me saying I can see your out of moves and if you leave me alone I'll give you some advice." So I handed him my shotgun and he took out the shells Then he made me hand over all my calls and vest And the day got mighty quiet and his wattles lost all their color And he said "If you're gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right You got to know when to call em, know when to shy em, Know when to move away and know when to run! You don't count your spurs when your staring down the barrel There'll be time enough for counting when the shootings done. Now every hunter knows that the secret to success Is knowing when to call and knowing when to hush Cause every moves a winner and every moves a loser And the best that you can hope for is to play the game again." And when he finished speaking he turned and went 'or the mountain Crushed all my calls and my turkey vest And somewhere in the mountain he gobbled one last time But in his final gobble I found a lesson I could keep You got to know when to call em, know when to shy em, Know when to move away and know when to run! You don't count your spurs when your staring down the barrel There'll be time enough for counting when the shootings done. (written by Freddy McGuire) |

since it was more than three lines we had to disqualify it from the tips contest...;>) It IS very fine work. He must have been inspired when he spent all that time in Nashville last year. |
