Does anyone here have any turkey hunting stories they would like to submit to my new site? So far I have a good group of stories for everything but turkey hunting.

If you have a story or article to submit, please select contact from the menu. Or you can email me.

Thanks,
GN

I got a good idea for you Michael Jr. Since the world is moving towards efficiency, on your proposed webpage, just put up a single entry in the form of a refenece to" vaturkey.com" in your page under "turkey" ...it will save everybody a lot of time and avoid inefficiency....

GN, the world I live in most definitely moving swiftly towards disorganization, wastefulness, and advertising; hence the impetus for creating my site. I would be happy to have a link to this site for Virginia turkey hunting, but my scope has become a little less provincial in the hunting department. I only thought it would be nice to have a few turkey stories as a supplement to the others, rather than directing readers all over the web.

Thanks - Mike

yep..as a group we are a pretty "provincial" group on this board ,so I if you are trying to appeal to advertisers you would need to leave us country folk out here by ourselves ...we would not want to embarass your new board or damage you appeal to advertising dollars..heck, when Mudfork says he needs to get "baled" there are not many advertisiers who would get the drift on that one...

You missunderstand - I'm tired of advertisers, advertisements, and salesmen in pursuit of a sportsman's money. Other than this site - everywere I go I am bombarded by popups and gimmicks. I could care less about advertising dollars - I'm funding this project myself. As for country folk - I live in Bedford... I don't think I need to elaborate on that.

I did not imply that members of this board are in any way provincial - perhaps I should have used the term regional to clarify.

MikeJr,
I admire your altruistic motives and passion of cause. Most everyone would agree with your comments regarding commercialization of the sport. With that said, press on with your own devices...build your field of dreams and they will come. That's exactly what happened here with this site...an idea by a passionate and well intended individual with no hidden agendas...it started slow...them spread like wildfire without a single dollar of advertising or hooks in other sites. Be creative in how your site gets hooked when folks conduct their internet searches...that's where you'll get your readers and posters. As for the stories....well as they say....the best ones usually write themselves.

So....are you a turkey hunter?

Diablo,

I have been a turkey hunter since I was 12; when I picked up my first Gray's Sporting Journal and read about a fantastic turkey hunt. There's nothing like it. I just recently started again after a 10 year break, but my real passion lies in fly fishing and big game. Lastly - I'm not too worried about people finding me - I had 4000 hits yesterday alone, I was just looking for a little extra content, and I have enjoyed reading entries from the people on this site.

My frustration reached it's highest level when I approached a well know fly fisherman and shop owner(located north of New Market) about writing an article - and was asked what I would be willing to pay. I understand that everyone needs to make a living, but some seem in it only for monetary gain - not the love for their pastime. I could be out of line - but it rubbed me the wrong way. Hence began my search for actual hunters and fishermen to provide the articles...

Remuneration is a paradox that perhaps changes complexion with ones stage in life. For instance......

A young outdoorsman perhaps 25 married with 2 children and a mortgage working diligently to make ends meet and still enjoy life values his free time greatly and asks for his remuneration in the form of cash payment.

...as compared to.......

An older gray haired outdoorsman perhaps 55 married - children on their own, house paid off settled into a comfortable career path looking forward to retirement. He too values his free time greatly and yet he receives his remuneration simply in the act of the writing itself.

Is there a right or a wrong approach? Probably not - the answer probably lies in not being judgemental.

Sounds like your website will take off - stick to your principles and let folks know what your website's mission is as well as what are your motives.

There's a fine line between spamming a website and genuinely asking for some friendly assistance.

Just 15 more cents worth........

No harm no foul...this board always welcomes turkey hunters looking for a good conversation to pass the time between gobbling time.
