I just saw another roadkill on the Dulles Toll Road here in Reston, VA. This is the second bird I've seen lying by the same stretch of trees in two weeks. Guess there's a group. Wow! Wish I could hunt them. Anyway, I'm wondering about all the unexpected places where people have seen birds. Where have you all unexpectedly seen them?

I saw one walking across a bridge over a railroad track in the middle of a good sized town in Pennsylvania once.
On a fall bear bowhunt in New Hampshire a few years back, I was told that Turkeys were legal with my bow too...
The state land I was hunting had a north and south zone divided by a paved road. The northern zone was off limits to Turkeys. As I was parking my truck on the south side of the road, a whole flock of birds eased along the opposite shoulder... Have you ever seen a Turkey grin?

A few years back after returning from hunting I looked out my back window and a hen was walking through the yard in my subdivision. It is wooded and I have seen deer before, but this was an odd site. I had time to go get the camera and get her on film.

Saw a turkey fly across I-95 in northern Virginia (forget exactly where) - 6 lanes plus 2 shoulders and median strip, but they don't don't like to cross large obstacles, right?

2 weeks ago in West Jefferson NC I saw a mature gobbler fly off a grassy hill next to a strip mall parking lot, over our truck and moving traffic, across a 4 lane road, and land on the other side - right next to a Bojangles. Sometimes you just need a biscuit I guess.

Two saturdays ago I saw a gobbler fly across I581 in Roanoke City, Va just south of Peters Creek road. He flew into the fenced in area of Dobson Exterminating next to the airport land. If I hadn't seen it myself I would doubt anyone telling me they saw it. I had a witness in the car. The turkey almost got hit by the car in front of us. Maybe we need an urban turkey season in Roanoke City! :)

Jim, there is a good population of turkeys in the Peter's Creek Road/Hershberger Road area believe it or not. Saw two hens in a field on the corner of Cove Road and Hershberger several times this year. Saw a deceased hen on Rte 419/Electric Road just before you get to Pinkerton this year. A couple of years ago, traveling north on I81 coming down Christiansburg mountain I saw a mature bird with a paintbrush fly from a rock cliff on the right shoulder to a high cliff on the left shoulder. Must have been some mighty sweet hen talk!

Saw a gobbler fly from the Fairfax County Dump across Highway 66 (8 or more lanes) past a high-rise buiding and into a business complex with a treed area. If a semi had been passing the turkey would have been hit.

My buddy has got photos of a jake in a tree in his back yard in the middle of a subdivision. The closest woods are about 1/2 mile to his house. But we know why he was there, the house next door had a peacock that was calling and the jake would answer the peacocks every call with gobble. Kinda like the moose up in Vermont that would hang around this guys farm and court his cow.
