Who has April or May turkey hunting trips planned? If so, where and when?
Have an invite for a 3 day hunt in eastern NC in a newly opened county for spring turkey during the 3rd or 4th week of April. My buddy tells me it's overrun and no one else hunts it.
Planning on hitting the road May 8 should I have three Virginia gobblers under my belt. Head to northeast WV then western MD then on to southcentral PA should I still have time before the season closes on the 24th. Hunt all public land and camp on-site. Haven't hunted the mountains since I was little. So, I think it would be fun. If I've still got the itch to hunt the last week of May I'll head to CT or NY.

Happy Hunting!

I have a draw hunt on WMA April 10-12. More birds there than anywhere I have ever seen, but definately no guarantee.

Shopson/...some time look at the statistics for THE CS WMA..they have lots ofbirdss but nobdoy kills many of hem...you have a better chance right at home on any day, at least that is what I think...I cnanot stand the interference from the other hunters on the draw hunts..it happens out i nte country toAnd did to me saturady am) but it drives me crazy o n the draw hunts..everybody seems to have the idea that they are there for one weeknd and they are GPING to kil a trukey and evryone that gobbles draws a crowd pretty quick...2 cents...

I just returnd home from Tenn last night. Weather was not good. I heard a few gobblers but most were on private land. I called in 3 jakes but did not shoot and also 5 hens in to my decoys but no adult gobblers. Also, I know most turkeys were hanging around on private land near bait piles were they were being taken very easily by the landowners hunting elite. I will be heading back down in two weeks and also hunt NC. Things should get better after the a few gobblers are shot at the bait piles and the others decide to get out of there. I will be waiting!!

GN I will have to disagree on this one. This is my third trip and have yet to have any interference from another hunter. I have yet to take one there, but I helped my less experienced brother succede on each of our previous two hunts. It is three days of lots of gobbling and turkey chasing, and this year our 12 and 13 year olds get to go to.

Shopson...you are more current than me on the CS interference area as I sort of passed on any draw hunt applications the last two years. I will stand by the statistics tho, as there are very few birds killed there for the amount of birds and the size of the place, don't you think? You know how to do it and probably 85-95% of the people who go there do not know how to do it ,and that is what bothers me. Taking your youngster up there is the treat tho, you are right about that as they do like to gobble.

GN the former manager down there once said," The deer hunters come here turkey hunting and go home with nothing, but the turkey hunters usually leave with one."
Yes I agree that for the number of hunters there are not that many birds harvested, usually about 1 bird per 10 hunters. But if you can turkey hunt, your odds of taking that one bird is very good.
