Went hunting today with my 20 year old son. Not all that unusuall you say? He and I have never hunted together before. In fact back last Spring we took the hunter safety course together. I had not hunted since I was around 16 David had never hunted. What a joy to see the excitment in his eyes, to see the anticipation as we went through the process of getting his first licesence, of properly washing our clothes to make them scent free, of picking the spot we would hunt. We talked about whether to pick a spot and wait to ambush a deer or whether to stalk looking for one. Then as we hunted today I saw him so focused, so aware of the woods and sounds that surround you on a windy day. His eyes got really big when a yearling, probably a doe, came up within about 15 feet behind us and stoped, stood briefly, and then fleed tail in the air after David made a hand jesture. I have always heard it is never too late. Well, it is true, today proves that. How much better would this day have been if he were 10 and I were in much better health than I am now? Guys, take a kid hunting! Even if it isn't your kid, introduce a kid to hunting. I promise it will be a time that a kid and YOU will never forget! I have two grandkids, one is 7 and one is 5, believe me, as long as I am able and with God's help, I WILL take those boys out in the woods and show them God's greatness, and His provision for us. I want to teach them respect for life that seems to be so lacking in our world today. We have a lot to offer the next generation. We want our children and our childrens children to be able to take care of themselves, and to be self suficient don't we? I hope and pray that we all make the most of the time we have, and share what we know with others!

Ron,
Tons of wisdom on your comments. I know many who post here on Freddy's site feel the same way. You might want to read "Opening Day Muzzleloader... Great Hunt... " & "Another great first deer story..." & "What it means to me... " in the Talk Forum section of his site. I think our real challenge is how to get others (that wouldn't typically visit here) to see the benefit in time spent outdoors with young people. Every little bit helps.

I agree 110%. Both my girls are ready to hunt, one is nine and has been a few times and the other is three and is itching to go. They are our future.
