I managed to help a buddy get a nice fall hen this weekend. She was sporting a sparse little five inch beard. It was a little surprising she had another hen with her and that was it. We were looking for a big flock we had seen, but she worked out just nice. |

Congrats Ryan and to your buddy! Could the deer hunters have your flocks busted up a little? Maybe that would explain the 2 birds being by themselves? It will be a nice Thanksgiving dinner! |

Congratulations Ryan. I have only heard about bearded hens. Never seen one. |

Congrats Ryan. Saw my first fall bird of the season last Friday morning. A lone gobbler in a field about 250 yards away. Nice beard, but never presented an opportunity to hunt. Saw two more gobblers strolling through an oak flat yesterday by themselves. One had a beard that was dragging the ground. Too bad season was out! I'll give that flat a try again in December. |
