Just wanted everyone on here to know how much I appreciated Freddy's help the other night. I managed to arrow my first buck just before dark last Sat. I was not confident in my tracking ability, so I called Freddy. He generously offered to come over and help me track it. The hit was high and there was hardly any blood trail. Freddy picked up the track and followed what just looked like a few turned over leaves for a good thirty-five to forty yards. Somehow he spots two specs of blood the size of the head of a pin on a leaf and continues to teach me how to track. Freddy led me right to my deer, helped me dress and drag it back to the truck. I know Freddy had much better things to do Sat. night, but I really appreciated the help. Thanks to Amy and Freddy's company too for understanding. It was good to have Freddy there to share the moment. I learned a lot.

I wish I could say that I had scouted and patterned this one, but that is not the case. I had hunted the am in Botetourt County and saw zip. That afternoon I decided I would spend a little time with my Dad and head down to my sister's place in Franklin County to hang a stand for the following weekend. Included bow and shotgun just in case. Dad and I got the stand hung and just enjoyed ourselves until about 4:45 then we were driving out the gravel road when 3 gobblers crossed in front of the truck. Dad grabbed the shotgun and went in their direction. I grabbed my bow and went the other way. I no more than got into the woodline when I found myself in the middle of a bunch of turkeys. I called a little bit and had one just about in range when two does blew behind me and I thought the game was over. The turkeys scattered, but did not go far, so I stayed on my knees and kept calling. Pretty soon they started roosting in the trees right over my head. I was frozen waiting for one to wander my way before flying up. There must have been three dozen of them. About that time I catch movement from my left. It is this buck walking with his nose to the ground. Before I knew it, he walked right into a shooting lane at about 15 yards. I let the arrow go and watched him take off. The adrenalin did not hit me until I was about halfway to the spot where I shot him, then my knees about buckled. I cannot express how excited I was/am. Pure luck, but I'll take it. My thought right after I collected myself was, "I sure hope Freddy's home..."
