Coach,

Mast is spotty.... there seems to be more high than low in my local....Just spots here & there...I saw zero buck sign on my trek up the mtn...smoe trails were being used heavy some not at all....All the streams have water in them... more than I have seen back in the mtn at camp in a good many years....I will scout the other 2 big hollows to the top next week & report.

Thanks for reading through the typos, I know I shouldn't be in that big of a hurry. Heck I did get most of the letters for the words messed up.

Anyway thank you.

Max, when you went to Highland County did you go thru Deerfield? If so could you tell if there was any water in the steams in that area? Has it been raining in that area? I'm praying there will be NO fire ban this year. Thanks for your time. Tim

I went thru West Augusta, but not Deerfield....We have had good rain fall the past few weeks in the area. The creeks & streams are in the best shape around here that they have been in a few years.. I cant see how they could claim we are still to dry after the rains the past few weeks...You guys figure out a day during season to hook up at Carpenters Covinence Store in West Augusta this year & I will try to make it... Coach & I have missed each other the past few years.. would love to meet you guys!

Max, That sounds great . We go up there most every night just to get out and ride away. It's funny you mention Capenters. I talked to the owner last year about him buying some of my wingbones calls. He said he would , but I have not had the time to put any together. I'm hoping to put a few together before I come up. The owner is a really great guy. I will be in touch with you before comming up. I will be leaving on the 14th or 15th. Tim

Tim,

Jeff Carpenter is a super guy! He was one of my first dealers to carry BTD. He is also one of my top sellers.. His word is as good as gold,& he always likes to help local outdoors folk that have a good idea market it.

If I am not mistaken, I used to stop in the store in tha late 60's as I travelled over from C'ville to grouse hunt in some of that country...is that white house still on the road with the old,old elk rack hanging over the door?

GN,I think you might be talking about the white way store .Did they sale home made bread there?
My dad use to take me up there for lunch. The family that frist had sold it a few years back and it was close. Now it open again, they added on to it and its a little restraunt now. Dogone good eatin there. my dad started taking me to the mountain in 1970.The only stores and eating places I can remember is Whiteway's, The old Hankey Mountain Cafe( Now Closed), and the EXXON STATION. The only store I remember having Antlers was the old Loydd Gorcery over in Stokesvile. Man, all this talking about the mountain is making me want to leave tonight. Yall have to great eveing. Tim

I am an excellemnt proofreader myeself. The placewiththe antlers was not a store, njust a big ol white house on the left (north) side of the main road ad it had some kind of big headlight-likethings on it too....

GN...I think you might be thinking of Buckhorn Inn. The mention of all these places, like Hanky Mountain Cafe, Whiteway Lunch, etc sure is making me homesick! Brings back a lot of good memories.

I should have been more specific....the place you are referring to used to be a big white house with a big round mirror and a mounted head of some variety hanging on the front porch. In the early 80s they remodeled and turned it into a restaurant. Not sure if it's still in business or not.

GN, I think moosehead might be right. It was close down for a couple of years. I can remember riding by there at night and the place was pack. Now there place is a ghost town. I'm not sure what has happen, but for the past 10 -15 years the hunters have not been comming up mountains. When I was a youngest my dad and I would have to leave early Friday night just to make sure we would get a spot in the North River camp ground. There would be 60 to 70 campers in there. These days there might be 5 or 6. I'm not sure why, but it does make it easier to find an area to hunt. Only thing is there are no hunter to help move the deer around. Oh well , one thing you can count on is that ole Tim will be there every year or at least until this body just won't move. My son is 8 now, in about 2 years I'm going to start bring him up there and hopefully he will past it on to his son ( as you can see I'm waiting on a grandson) someday. Have a great day my freinds. Oh yea moose, you said it was making you home sick are you from that area and where are you now. I have the buckhorn web if any of you want to check it out http://www.thebuckhorninn.com/ . God Bless Tim
