This morning a co-worker told me that the Governor of Maryland has issued a ban on hunting until this crazy killer is caught. Has anyone heard of this. I'm thinking my co-worker is just trying to get a charge out of me. He said if Maryland is doing this , that VA. will be next.

I have not heard of such a thing... if anybody out there has some info, let us know... I doubt very seriously that it's true...

I just heard on CNN that the governor of Maryland is signing an executive order today, banning the recreational use of guns. Truly sad. What danger could a young hunter, who could be excited about his first hunting season, pose to society as a whole?! Anybody want to bet that when they do catch this crazy murderer, that the "system" has already had an opportunity to remove this threat. Until we realize that the "system" is there to protect the innocent, and not the rights of the criminal, we are hurting as a country.

Thanks Mudfork... very sad, but indeed true! Here is a link from CNN... It's about half way down the article...

http://www.cnn.com/2002/fyi/news/10/16/sniper.attack/index.html

Here is the text copied from the article-
"In neighboring Maryland, the governor plans to respond to the shootings in part by banning outdoor recreational gunfire until the sniper shootings end. In doing so, he hopes to prevent residents' confusion over the shots they hear from hunters and those sounds that could be linked to the sniper. "

Little more info:

http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/South/10/16/sniper.shootings/index.html

"Maryland Gov. Parris Glendening said he would sign an executive order Wednesday temporarily banning outdoor recreational gunfire, including hunting, in metro Washington counties until the sniper incidents are over. "

Sorry... some more -

"The order, which will affect Montgomery, Prince George's, Anne Arundel and Howard counties, came at the request of county officials who said police, already busy with the sniper investigation, are being swamped with calls about gunfire. "

At least the temporary hunting moratorium is limited to the immediate counties being traumatized by the murdering sniper. Let's choose to be supportive of a Governor's decision during a very troubling time. Maryland is a very diverse state and very supportive of hunting and other outdoor sports. TheGovernor's intent is not to limit the innocent hunter from enjoying his recreation, his intent is to enact every opportunity to protect citizens in his state. He made a tough decision based upon humane intent and no hidden agenda. Put yourself in his shoes for a moment and be thankful you can step out of them. Once the killer is neutralized, I expect hunting seasons in the affected areas will re-open.

I understand the Governor's attempt. But why should the hunters be the ones who take the hit. Hell, Lets put a ban on white vans too. If the police and local Goverment would stop telling the News Stations every move they plan to make, they might have caught this person by now. I don't know what the answer is, only Gods knows and lets hope it will STOP soon!!. Let watch to see what the Virginia's Governor will do. I tell ya those people up there must be terrified. I find myself watching out more you never know, this person could up and move to another area just like thatand start some place else. Let's hope,no let Pray that catch this person soon.

Paris Glendening is an anti-hunter and anti-gun. Always has been and always will be. This is just another excuse for him to put restrictions on hunting in Maryland. You don't see Warner restricting hunting.

Yeah - lets hope this thing doesn't move to Northern VA, particularly Prince William and Fairfax Counties! :)

Here is an interesting article on Paris Glendening. It may help in determining his motivation. Rick Layser

I sometimes wonder about all the complaining that goes on about the media. I figure the police and especially the FBI have probably reached a point where they use and can manipulate the media to actually help them. Truth is it ain't easy to catch someone doing something wrong! What do ya'll think? I also wonder why hunting has to take the hit. But I can see the view point at least.

Ryan, I guess I worry that maybe sometime the news media is giving the killer to much information and he or she will change their pattern. Location, car , ect. It'a sad world we live in and I wish I knew the answer. I pray this person will stop te killing. I pra the police are able to catch him. Be safe to all of you. Tim

I don't see where the hunters are taking much of a hit at all by the decision. It is ONLY for the 4 counties directly affected by this LOSER and there are plenty of other places to hunt. It is nothing more than an inconvenience at best. If you want to talk about taking hits, how about all of the school kids that have had their entire sporting seasons stripped from them after practicing 5 days a week for weeks before the season. As adults, we have options and can more easily adapt to sudden changes, but children have fewer options and are affected a great deal more. I guess the positive side is, my son and I have done more hunting this year together now that his football games have been cancelled.
