This is one is going to be tough to do over the net...need to have a box call in your hands to really be able to see/hear what needs to be done to tune it tune it I think, particulary since we don't know the make or model....sort of like asking somebody to read the newspaper to you over the net when you are holding the only copy.hhhahah Anyway, take it to q good turkey pro shop place or find Freddy or somebody else on here at a show; that is my suggestion.

Like GN says find someone with a good ear. I try to tune mine to give me a nice soft purr. This usally gives me a good all around sound. Try it, but take advice from above that will be your best bet.

Walter... like everyone else said it's pretty tough to do without having the call in your hands. One thing that I see happen quite frequently with box calls is oil from your hands will get on the lip (or lid) of the call and it will mess up the tone (the oil eliminates the friction needed to make the sound).

I take no responsibility if you want to try this but you can take a really fine grain sand paper and lightly, very lightly, go over the lip of the call and the lid. You do not want to change the countour of the lid or lip but this will help clean the call. After sanding re-chalk the lid. This will also get rid of chalk build up on the lip.

You can also try to modify the sound by screwing the screw in the lid in or out. You should start the tuning by having the lid touching the highest piont on lip. However, you said one side sounds good so you might mess that side up by trying to fix the other side.

Good luck... take Realtree up on his offer... ;o)
