I am new to the site thanks to some good ole boys at vadeer.com I would like to know if any of you guys hunt longbeards in the fall by calling. Using gobbler yelps and cutting to get a response. I have only still hunted them like deer in the fall but I have been reading alot over the years where guys call up longbeards instead of the using the ole bust and run technique. Please help if you have any advice.

Grubbs... I have had some success calling in gobblers in the fall by keying in on the pecking order factor. If you can find a few gobblers and challenge their dominance they will sometimes come looking for a fight. Most of the time if I find a few longbeards together I will try to call them with some gobbler yelps and clucks before trying to bust them up. You can also use fighting purrs and cutting (or "popping" as some call it) on them in the fall. It will work occasionally but I have the most success busting them up... Good luck!

I hunt mostly during the spring seasons, so as yet I haven't taken a "fall Gobbler". The archery season is going on at this time and I'm after a decent buck!!

I have called in a few Jakes using Kee Kee's they seem to come in mad or agravated. I have seem some londbeards but they are a differnt game. Most show no interest to my calling. I go with Mr. Freddys advise break them up then call them back.

Ray Eye who is a big turkey hunter in Missouri claims to be the MAN in calling in Fall longbeards. Some of his tips make sense. I don't have open timber which makes for good busts nor do I always know where they are going to roost. One day they are on my side of the river the next day they are across the river.
