Someone is actually selling beards and spurs on ebay. What is going on? Is anyone else as disgusted as I am about this? I think every bird I take a trophy and would never think of selling a beard and spurs no matter the size!!!!!!!!!

Why hunt at all if you can walk into Wal-Mart (so to speak) and buy your trophy off the shelf! Why would anyone even want to buy such things, unless is incapable of harvesting his own and his ego won't let him say so to his friends. Maybe whom ever buys these "TROPHYS" will make up some yarn of his great hunting abilities, and what a tremendous hunt he had. How sad!

Well folks I guess some people do not take pride in the hunt. I know myself, like most of you would not dream of buying this( or selling), but I am sure there are folks out there that dont spend the time, so they will just buy it to impress someone. I guess they have no conscience, and dont understnad the meaning of a real hunt.

Complete lack of respect for the animals or another anti-hunting stunt by the activists. Neither would surprise me. Just a shame that
such a great sport and tradition can be reduced to selling parts to make a buck.

I do make a few turkey calls from wingbones and have bought some but only from legally harvested birds. I have also sold a few calls with spurs on the lanyard. I really don't see any harm from selling part from legally harvested animals. It is not any different than a trapper selling fox, mink, muskrat ect. for coats. They like you are harvesting a renewable resource, and both hunting and trapping are sound wildlife management tools. I really don't think there is anything wrong with selling the feathers from a turkey wing for arrow fletching, and fly tying, or the wingbones to make a call. What about a deer antler to make a knife handle. It is only using part that might other wise be wasted. If you don't keep spurs and or beards, I don't see any problem selling them. As long as the animals were legally harvested and the selling of parts is legal. I donot agree with selling parts from any animal where it is not a legal practice. Please remember when they stop trapping, hunting and fishing is next. All sportsmen should rally togeather for the good of all.

I agree with you but what SELF RESPECTING hunter would purchase this. I have traded native americans feathers, given wingbones to others for calls and made my own, donated feathers. All sportsmen should rally together for the good of all. This should include internal self regulation (for lack of a better word) if we feel that something is wrong we should say so. I am not calling the person selling or buying a poacher (I do not agree with it.) I feel like I am getting on my soap box but I feel like there are a lot of poachers out there that call themselves hunters and they harm all sportsmen with conduct that the anti's just love. We need to police ourselves so others won't have to. I hope I have not made anyone mad, just my two cents of what I feel.

I agree with you 4DBIRD. I have given feathers and wings to folks that I know. Whittlehouse, I can see trading, buying or selling in private where you know what they will be used for calls, fly's,fletching etc. and you know the source. Selling beards and spurs on an open forum like ebay where the general public sees it just gives the anti's ammunition to further hurt our sport which is already under attack every day. All sportsman should rally for the good of all.
I don't want to make anyone mad either. I have just had to work too hard for the beards and spurs that I have. Just don't see how anyone could sell them. Just my two cents on how I feel as well.

When I posted I was not mad, like you this is my opinion. I too work very hard for what few beards and spurs that I have. I would not take anything for the ones I have. But some people just don't feel this way. Some hunters have killed several turkey and it doesn't mean as much to them. I have bought a few spurs from legally harvested birds to use on the lanyards with my yelpers I sell on ebay. They look good is all, I don't know what the people that buy them tell other folks. To me it is the same as making a box call from a Butternut tree, does it matter who harvested the tree. I donot believe in people poching animals to sell parts.

this ebay turkey beard/spur/mounted bird selling has been going on for years(since ebay started) and before that at gun shows you would see bearsd/spurs on seller's tables for sale. I would not take anything for my "parts" from "my " birds either...but to others it is a pure commodity, and if it is legal all you can do it turn up your nose at 'em for doing it...

I won't part with my spurs or beards, but what about fans and feathers? A body can only keep so many fans. Rather than throw them away, what's wrong with selling them if somebody wants them?

donate the tails and spurs to the state taxidermy assoc. or NWTF. We have JAKE activities which we hand out feathers, and the taxidermy assoc has a kids thing where they teach them how to perserve them.

Unfortunatly guys hunting has gotten so commercialized that some hunters will do anything for a trophy to show off. I don't blame the industry,it's just a few folks who never had anyone to take the time to point out good hunting ethics.
