OK What is your favorite classic type of call (glass, slate, box, turtle shell, sweet spot, wingbone)? I know everyone is going to is going to say mouth call, but for this discussion they are excluded since they don't last a lifetime. This is just for fun anyway.

I know I am just a beginer, but I will chime in anyway. I purchased a MAD slate/copper/aluminum/glass call, you know an all in one jobbie. Anyway, I have played with all four surfaces, with different types of strikers, and with the various sounds that a Turkey makes, and I find (with my limited experience) that I can get better, warmer, more realistic sound out of the SLATE portion of my MAD call. I will be interested to hear you other guy's answers to this question. Could be a real education!

Mine would have to be a Primos Power Crystal... There are a lot of birds that could attest to its effectiveness if they were still with us! :) It just sounds like a turkey...

Lynch's World Champion box call. It was my Grandfather's. I also use his shotgun (Rem Model 31).

I would have to vote for a glass call. I love my glass call, it sure sounds pretty to me and several dead turkeys.

Its a tossup between the Primos Power Crystal and my Perfection Screemin Demon glass.
Although for purrs the Quaker Boy easy yelper is pretty good too.

I know you boys might think I'm a little old fasion , but I have an old A.M Coiner Slate call.Great for purrs and yelps. This call is the sweetest sounding thing I have. Not sure if yall have heard of him, but on the bottom of the call it has his name and a Waynesboro address. When I last spoke to Dennis Campbell he told me this gentleman had past. It's small, it's easy to use. It's a real neat piece of turkey call history.

Since mouth calls are excluded, my Lohmans box call got me my first two birds, so I reckon it would be my favorite.

I have quite a few old types of friction calls. I use them all at some poin t in the season, just to keep up the tradition of having used them . The old "scratch box "type calls that were made by Ray Sutphin are some of my favorites. A round piece of thin slate and a striker are about as pure as you can get and I have one somewhere in my vest but do not use it much, although it does n ot sound bad. For the one call that I would not go to the wooods without...that would be a 15 yr old slate call form some guy in Pennsylvania whose name I cannot remmeber.

First off I would just like to say this is the site I have been looking for. I have been Va. turkey hunting for 8 years now and brother I love it.I am from NC and have always been impressed with the management practices implemented in Va. You guys are lucky. NC still has good ways to go to catch up with Va. in turkeys. Enough said, I am a diaphram man. I like all the friction calls and use them regularly but the mouth calls is what I get the best responses where I hunt in southampton and greensville co.

Welcome to site Grubbs... glad to have you! We have quite a few folks that post from other states. We have a large contingent from TN... but don't let that stop you from coming back! hahaha! :)

I've got a wonderful sounding box call called the Hustlin Hen from Billy White in Alabama. Heard it at the Dixie Dear Classic in Raleigh and quickly plunked down $40 for it. He had a paddle boat call that sounded even better, almost unbelievable, but he was a bit too proud of it - $100.

I agree, my glass, slate and composite friction calls are my favorites. I do have two box calls, but I prefer the others to these for moisture reasons.
