I passed on a couple small ones myself down there.. I never saw any shooters.. one of My buddies who lives down there got a Seven and an Eight last week.. respectable Bucks .. nothing huge.. I only heard of a couple of big boys being killed down there.. one 10 point off on the WV side and a nice 9 point from the Big End on the VA side..

Also another friend Missed what he calls a Pope and Young buck at 24 steps with his bow the Satuday before the WV Rifle Opener.. he is a die hard bow hunter so I'm sure it was a big deer he said he got the Fever and just blew the shot.. It was over on the Bald Knob Side.. which is the the other dirt road you take off of Rt 84 opposite the Patty's Knob Road right there at that little Camp named Camp Joy.. climb to the top and take the Jake's Run road back in there about 5 miles.. always some Big Deer back in there.. I will post some we have taken over the years back in there if I get a chance.. My cousin has a 150 class ten point he took with a muzzleloader a few years back and I've gotten a couple to 120 class bucks out of there myself..

Do you know where Mill Gap is in Highland County.. on Route 84 between Frost and Monterey .. not sure which route you guys take to get up there.. anyway you want to see some big deer pictures taken off of Patty's Knob and Warm Springs Moutain..just stop there at that little store in Mill Gap sometime..

Glad you guys had some success..

Freddy.. you jest, but we used to have an inside joke about that dirt road and the name when I was in High School.. You know, Dirt road isolated.. Friday night Date.. I'm sure you can imagine .. I'll leave it at that..

I hear you.. My Dad tells stories of Huge Bucks that came out of there in the 40's and 50's .. some of his uncles and other relatives killed.. they used to do a lot of Deer Drives back then when there were not very many deer.. not sure what happened to all the Antlers.. I've seen some pictures but not the actual antlers..

He swears that his uncle my great uncle since deceased killed one on the Mad Tom once that two grown men could fit side by side between the antlers.. He saw the antlers when he has just a kid .. and swears it was bigger than anything he has ever seen on the outdoor channel or in a magazine. no picture of that one that I know of though.. and the antlers have dissapeared as well.. You know how Stories can get exxagerated over time though, I'm sure it was a large deer nonetheless.. I don't think they cared much about antlers back then.. it was more about putting food on the table..

My uncle has a picture of a huge 10 point he killed on the knob that has both G2's split like a Mule Deer.. he sent it with some man to Charleston to get it mounted and never saw it again.. we got it blew up for him a few years back for X-mas and framed it.. Just from the looks of the picture I would guess it would have scored around 170 ..

There is one picture in the Store at Mill gap that is absolutely Huge.. I think it would push 190 at least maybe more.. the Deer according to the Store owner was killed by an out of stater that had come in for deer season on route 600 somewhere down by the Gathrite Dam .. anyway he told me they took the guys deer because the guy had purchased an in state license and when he tried to check the deer in they caught him.. It looks like a Main Frame 12 point with some stickers on it.. it's laying in the bed of a two wheel drive pickup and one antler is touching the inside of the fender wall on one side of the truck and the other is laying up and across the other rail on the opposite side.. you should stop and look at it..
