So guys please answer this question...was the hatch great, good, fair, or poor this year in western VA?

The hatch was pretty good here in PA. Given the bad hatches we have had over the past few years in the northeast I am praying that maybe, just maybe we did ok everywhere this spring and we'll have a few more. This would mean some awesome hunting in spring 2006, 2007, and maybe beyond.

Thoughts? I'm sorry of I am resurrecting an old subject but I have been out of the loop for months.

Thanks,
-Eric

Hey Eric. I don't have good news. Have been hunting Botetourt county (national forest) and twice in Montgomery county (national forest). Have seen two small groups of adult hens in Montgomery county and one small group of adult hens in Botetourt.

Though on the 20th in Botetourt I did have a hen to my west and a juvinille bird to my south. It sure was nice to hear a kee-kee in the fall woods.

I keep hoping to see a large family gang but no luck so far :-(

In the Central VA area I think we did OK. I think certain areas may have been poor but what I have seen so far is good, at least better than the last 2 years.

My grandpa saw two good size gangs during muzzle loading season with quite a few little ones in it. Other than that I have not seen many. I do not have a good feeling about them at all. I sure hope I am wrong. I will find out soon enough. Plan on hunting them a couple of days once the season comes back in.

Eric,
I have seen a lot more flocks this year than in the previous 2 years in Frederick county and Loudoun county . I would not call it great but good .

Eric.. I have seen more turkeys this year during deer season than i have seen in a while. This is good but usually when there a plenty birds i usually have a rough time during gobbler season. I know this probably don't make sense but that is how it works for me.
