Hello all. It's been a long while since I've been on here. Work has kept me busy at the tune of 206 hours of overtime since May 15. Of course that's free work since I'm salaried. Anyway, beyond that I've been working on the new house and am pretty much done with all I wanted to get done this year. We found out about 5 months ago that my wife and I are expecting our first child (a little girl) so that has added a few unexpected tasks to the list, but we are excited! I killed a nice 10 point the first morning of bow season. I don't know if any of you remember the 10 point I got last year on the first day of bow season, but this one was from the same stand. I think they are related as they have a lot of the same characteristics, only the one this year was about a year younger. Then I didn't get to spend much time in the woods. I took off Nov. 9-12 to do some serious bowhunting. On the moring of the 9th, I went to a new area that I had never been before. Walked out a ridge and found some huge rubs and really big scrapes in a low gap. I figured it would be a good place to start so I climbed a tree and started grunting and rattling. I had sat there for about an hour and had done my last rattling sequence about 20 minutes earlier. I heard a thud thud thud coming in the frosty leaves. I looked out to see this huge buck coming my way. He was bristled up, ears laid back, walking stiff legged, and coming straight for me. I was unsure how to go about getting a shot as his angle was straight on and he was facing me. At 25 yards he stopped to work a scrape. When he was working the licking branch he was looking right at me. When he put his head down to make a rub I came to full draw. After a few seconds he turned and started to come toward me again. I had no shot. I thought that the first little bit of an angle he gives me I'm gonna shoot or else he'll be right under me and then past me and then I would have no shots at all. At 20 yards he turned slightly to pick up an acorn and I took my shot. He went right under my tree and over the hill into a steep cove where he died 100 yards over the hill. It was a lot of hard work to get him out of there but well worth it. He's my best buck ever and I'm so excited! He's a 12 point that green scored 147 4/8. Hopefully I can get some of the pictures of him to post. I won't put any up of the 10 point as he's not in the same league as the 12 point.
