After my muzzleloader season debacle (some of you know the story... 2 nice bucks, 2 shots, no meat, scope somehow knocked off) I managed to kill this pretty 8 pointer Wednesday afternoon. He came slipping out of a laurel thicket at 4:30. He wasn't chasing or anything, probably just scent checking for a hot doe. It's really rugged in there and after the shot he dove off a steep rock bluff and died right in the middle of a huge boulder. I just knew his rack was going to be busted up but it stayed intact during the tumble. Fun drag out of there! Amy has now informed me that I need to work on filling the freezer.

Good luck to everyone and be careful!

Is it me or does he look a lot like the buck on the front of the VDGIF Rules and Regs Booklet??

His G-3s are bigger, but that cover pic was taken last year I'm sure..

I've been thinking way too much about big bucks lately :-) and I just happen to have the Reg book on my desk beside my computer..

Hmmmm..

Anyway.. awesome deer Freddy.. congrats

Way to go Freddy! Great buck! I can relate on the drag. It took me 2 1/2 hours to drag that 8 pointer out of the mountain.

Thanks guys... he's at the taxidermist as we speak! It was a great feeling to get that muzzleloader monkey off my back!

Chuck... that's Under Armour that I am wearing and I absolutely love the stuff. It's a great insulator and keeps the moisture off your body. I got the medium weight type and really do like it and would recommend it to anyone.

McGuire's Taxidermy in Christiansburg... It's worth the drive in my opinion... 382-9608.

BTW... he's not kin folk, just has a good last name! :-)
