Yesterday i was sitting in my ground blind in the rain and thinking to myself "man im crazy" i had almost talked myself into leaving but decided to stay. I was looking down the field and all of a sudden i look up and there was a rainbow that came up from the far end of my field and i thought man if thats not a sign i dont know what it. Five minutes later a 6 pointer walked into the field followed by a 9 pointer. I pulled the hammer back on my ML and settled the crosshairs on his shoulder and squized the trigger. When the smoke cleared the 9 laid right where he had stood and the six just looked at me like what was that.....I reloaded my gun and leveled the crosshairs on him and pulled the trigger...he ran about 30 yards. Man i am soo pumped I cant even stand it...this are my first deer with a ML. Sorry this was so long but i nedded to tell everyone....thanks

Sounds fun but isn't killing two bucks in one day a little illegal??

THis is copied from the VDGIF website.

"East of the Blue Ridge (except on National Forest lands in Amherst, Bedford, and Nelson counties)

The bag limit for deer for all hunters shall be two a day, six a license year, three of which must be antlerless. :

Hard to say unless you're in that situation. I had a little luck this evening. I shot an 8 pointer at 5 steps. He came in from behind me straight to a scent rag I had hanging on a branch. I was on the side of a bean field where bucks have been cruising. First buck with my new CVA optima. 17 inches inside but not real tall. He had been rubbing a tree and his hocks were black and stunk. He was ready. His neck wasn't swollen, though. Good luck to everyone.

Congratulations Reed and jp. I would without a doubt also taken the six Reed, because based on what you've written he was not a yearling, and you just don't get many chances at mature bucks.

JP...i was also using the CVA Optima......295 powerbelt and 100 grains of 777....i recovered the bullet out of the nine pointer......it mushroomed completly..im very impressed with it.....i shot the six quartering to me and he only went 25 yards or so before piling up...im glad too because there was no blood trail....

Reed--
To answer your earlier question, my answer today would be "no I wouldn't have shot the 6 ptr", especially with the fact that you already had a larger buck on the ground.
With that said, when I was 22, I probably would have done exactly the same thing you did. We all get wrapped up in the moment, especially when we were younger and didn't have the experience and memories that several decades of hunting brings. Enjoy the memories of the two and think about letting the six become a 8, 10 or 12 in the future.
And congratulations on the two - a fine day in the field for anyone hunting.
