Went hunting on Saturday morning.3 guys ,3 dogs and 0 flushes in 4 hours of hunting . I have been hunting grouse for 32 years and have never been shut out. I have a couple of other places to try but I do not have high hopes. Looks like a duck hunting year for me since I don't deer hunt.

VGH, Went opening day, all day. 6 flushes-no grouse. with dog. wet leaves and 1st day ,Grouse still wouldn't let us in the same county w/ them before getting up. that told us...old grouse. I don't think they had a hatch. Did run into 3 bunches of turkeys though, looks like they did allright. Hope to go later this week if it cools off but mighty discouraged on the outlook.

same here in Tenn on the OLD grouse theory...went first time yesterday...10 month old setter pointed three diffeent birds..all were too slippery though , flew straight dwonhill off the edge in impenetrable jungles, and I had no shooting chances. All three birds were exactly where I left a cagey old one last february, so I suspect they are still hanging on, having reared no young dumb ones. Grouse aren't born as geniuses, so, these had been around awhile.
